Life...right now...

Life is pretty blahh. Blah blah blah….and you know what?? I quite like it. I was explaining to Lindsey last night that, now that my time here is coming to an end, I want as little stress as is possible with my life. Work is very blah and it pisses me off actually. Work is the one place that I enjoy the stress of deadlines, pressure to perform and challenge of time management – but it’s just not been that way. So my day consists of waking up around 7:30ish, watching CNN for a half an hour or so (I love catching up on world news early in the morning over a cup of hot coffee) and then heading into work. I usually leave my house around 8:45am and then stand outside to wait for an auto to come by – this can take anywhere between 2 min – 15 min. Just depends. Once I’ve settled on a price I’m on my way to work… Like I said, work has been boring so I usually do whatever little work is given to me and wait for the time to tick by. After work, I usually go home, sleep and/or watch tv. Then, maybe, friends will come by and we’ll either hang out there or go out for dinner. After all this…I head to bed and start the whole this over again. Like I said…it’s blah…but I like it.

So, Obama is President!! I’m quite excited and pleased. I’m excited to see what he does over the next 4 years to not only address some of today’s major issues, but change America’s perception around the world. I think America is a beautiful place and great nation. The one thing that I really love about it is that anybody – of any race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, etc. can become, do, accomplish, and dream anything they desire. America isn’t defined by a specific ethnicity, religion or race…it’s a melting pot of diversity…and I love that. I love the sense of equality among people. I love the fact that the office janitor demands to be treated and IS treated with the same respect as the CEO. And if not, with enough will to fight, his/her voice to demand change will be heard. I love the fact that the inexperienced/young are not seen as incompetent but rather as budding with potential. I think the culture of equality, in my America, is one of the most beautiful aspects of our culture.

I say all this from a distance… I was thinking this morning that I don’t think I’ll live/work in the US for quite some time. And actually, I’m okay with that. Though I’m an American, I don’t want to live there just yet, I’m enjoying the life of living in different countries and experiencing different cultures, ways of life and perspectives. I love the world…and I guess that is a very American too. The desire and will to experience, explore, live outside of my comfort zone and be on the move. Mom used to tell me that “the world is your oyster’ – she encouraged me to explore and be creative. Growing up I wasn’t allowed to just sit and watch TV…and I didn’t have the coolest toys or gadgets…I was forced to create. I remember making my own Halloween costumes, staying up the whole night writing plays to perform, building tree forts, starting businesses from giving roller skating lessons to offering babysitting services.

Ok, now I’m way to bored…have nothing else to do except reminisce…and indulge in a bit of narcissism… but before I close, I think all this…all that she made me do as a child made me crave intensity as an adult…it’s made me want something different in life and desire a unique experience. It’s made me unconventional and yet value truth in life. I love my mom.
