urrggghhh..irritating little things
Its good to know when enough is enough! Growing up my parents taught me to always value others personal space. Its always good to know when your presence is really un-welcome. It's pretty clear in the US when friends or family want space - nothing is said, its just known. I believe it was Abraham Lincoln that said, "fish and visitors smell in 3 days". We just know when enough is enough...and if we don't - then our parents didn't teach us right! Well, things are a little different here in India. It's never enough and little signs which tell a person to back off aren't as clear... In many ways it's nice because there is always an open door policy with friends and family. If I have to ask to go over to a friends house, then I'm being too formal. I actually really love the fact that there are no boundaries when it comes to friends. However....I still believe there is a line...even in this culture. For example, if two people have made plans together to hang out...often times if a third one calls, they will be invited automatically! That would never happen in the US. When people make plans together - it means "WE" are hanging out and I or WE will call YOU later! But here, it's not that way! And to add to it...many times people will just say..."I'm coming along" or "I'll meet you there?" I have to say, it's super annoying at times. Because if you want space with the other person...you have to make it so explicit. Where is this all coming from?? Yes, there is a root to the irritation I'm facing today, but I don't feel like talking about it.
